Young Professionals in Energy (YPE) is a global non-profit organization with more than 2,000 members in its Denver Chapter. YPE aims to facilitate the advancement of young professionals in the Denver and global energy industry by providing a forum for networking and career development through social, educational and civic service opportunities.

Executive Committee Chair
Mark is passionate about producing energy for America and the world. Growing up in western Colorado, he was raised in an entrepreneurial natural gas production company, Argali Exploration. The exposure to industry and business throughout his upbringing drove him to earn a B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Energy and the Environment at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He went on to work in a myriad of engineering and project management roles at Encana, Anadarko, Sundance Energy, and OneEnergy Partners. He currently serves as Director of Engineering Innovation at the newly formed Franklin Mountain Energy where he’s helping to build a “Best in Class” Delaware Basin focused operator. Mark is a licensed Professional Engineer (Petroleum) in Colorado, and he actively volunteers for the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Denver chapter. When he’s not brainstorming about how to power pumping units with solar panels, Mark enjoys playing piano, snowboarding and climbing mountains of all sizes, most forms of fitness, beer of all flavors, and traveling the world.

Andrew is currently an Associate at Aether Investment Partners, LLC, a boutique investment management firm focused on real assets, with an emphasis on private investments in the energy, mining, and agriculture sectors. He is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and monitoring investments within these areas, and is actively involved in the monitoring of several investments in the upstream oil and gas and power sectors. Prior to joining Aether Investment Partners, LLC, he was an Associate at Pacific Investment Management Company (“PIMCO”) focused on the firm’s commodity and inflation-linked bond strategies. Before joining PIMCO, Andrew earned a BS in Finance with minors in Statistics and Mathematics from Florida State University, where he graduated magna cum laude. Andrew is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder and is currently pursuing an M.S. in Mineral and Energy Economics at the Colorado School of Mines.

Ellen Scott is a Technical Storyteller in the energy industry. She combines an engineering background and highly technical experience with strong communication skills to effectively tell stories. After nearly a decade of experience in the oil and gas industry, her roles include those in business development, GeoEngineering, and Field Engineering at Deep Imaging, Fracture ID, SIGMA3, and Schlumberger. Her areas of expertise include completions, hydraulic fracturing, geomechanics, cementing, microseismic interpretation, and production enhancement field studies. She began her career in 2010 with Schlumberger in the Middle East. Ellen has a B.S.E. in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University and a M.S. in Global Energy Management from the University of Colorado Denver Business School.

Whitney Van Cleave
Whitney is currently the VP of Client Relations and Recruiting at Iridium Recruiting, a boutique firm she co-founded in early 2019. Iridium specializes in providing recruiting and staffing services to companies across the energy sector including upstream, midstream, power generation and transmission, environmental, manufacturing, alternatives and service companies. Before establishing Iridium, Whitney led technical recruiting projects focused on the energy industry for Drawbridge Consulting & Search and RTS CORP, an award-wining firm. She has also held multiple leadership roles in marketing and communications. Whitney graduated magna cum laude from the University of Denver with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. Outside of the office, Whitney can be found fly fishing, camping, hiking, and traveling.

Field Education and Outreach
Jessica is a Principal Analyst in Xcel Energy’s Strategic Asset Management department, focusing on generation assets across seven states. In her role at Xcel Energy, she develops financial and operational strategies to maintain reliable and affordable power, while striving to achieve carbon goals. Prior to her current positon, Jessica has a well-rounded history of working in the utilities industry, as she has worked in utility consulting (SAIC, Leidos, R.W.Beck, New Gen) focusing on rate design to align utility financial structures with operational and business goals and has spent time in generation management on a real-time trading desk (Fulcrum Power). Jessica has a BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin and is currently completing a MS in Energy Policy and Climate from Johns Hopkins. As a member of YPE, Jessica facilitates energy education and tours of energy operations, emerging technology and various energy processes to better inform YPE members of the diversity and interconnectivity of the energy industry.

Event Planner and Podcast Co-Host
Jacob is currently a staff professional at Rule Engineering, an environmental consultant that assists heavy industrial clients with complex, technical, environmental compliance issues. Jacob holds a B.S. in Geological Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, and is a Boettcher Scholar. He is seeking accreditation as a Licensed Professional Geologist and Professional Engineer, and is currently an E.I. and G.I.T. Jacob has a strong interest and enthusiasm for energy, geology, and sustainable community development. In his spare time he volunteers for the Denver YPE chapter and the Denver Professional Chapter of Engineers Without Borders. When he is not working or volunteering, you can find Jacob mountain biking, high-lining, rafting, and skiing in the beautiful American West.
