Energy Foundry is an early-stage venture capital fund that invests in the most promising energy innovators, and we work with the world’s leading energy companies to build and scale new ventures. Our approach merges venture capital with the perks of partnership, and includes an arsenal of essential tools and relationships to help bring great ideas to market.  We assess 700+ energy technologies each year, which creates a unique perspective on what’s happening at the edge of innovation.

To more systematically manage our innovation pipeline, we are launching a Research division and looking for a highly motivated Director to help us operationalize it. You will take the lead in identifying emerging trends through rigorous research and analysis, and you’ll be responsible for delivering distinctive insights. You will assess market and technical information and translate it into actionable intelligence, conduct targeted outreach and relationship-building, and drive engagement with a variety of stakeholders.  If you’re passionate about groundbreaking energy technology and consider yourself an intellectually curious "go-getter," this role offers a unique opportunity.

Market Analysis and Insights

  • Analyze and identify emerging technology and market trends
  • Become the Subject Matter Expert for specific technology verticals
    • Perform industry “deep dives”
    • Build market assessments and competitive landscape analyses
    • Identify new or high growth market opportunities and technology breakthroughs
  • Prepare and present findings in a clear and actionable format using both written and visual materials
  • Support Energy Foundry’s due diligence activity (as needed)

Innovation Partnerships

  • Lead working groups and strategy sessions with partners to explore innovation trends, identify technology gaps, and define points for innovation integration
  • Identify emerging technologies which are relevant to our partners’ businesses, and foster connections in support of commercialization goals
  • Own all deliverables and drive projects forward through completion

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with 5+ years of experience in consulting, research or strategy.  Prior experience in the energy industry is required, and prior experience in a startup environment would be a plus.  Bachelors degree required.

  • Must be a self-starter capable of working in a fast-paced environment with limited direction
  • Ability to drive a process forward through completion, and to effectively prioritize and multi-task
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and passion for building something new
  • Fundamental understanding of the energy industry
  • Strong analytical capabilities and the ability to develop a thesis around industries / markets
  • Ability to collect and interpret data and provide relevant conclusions / recommendations
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and a diplomatic interpersonal manner
  • Great relationship management skills – networking, influencing, collaborating – and a proven ability to build trust
  • Business acumen and good innate judgment
  • A high standard of integrity and ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality
