Energy Impact Partners (EIP) operates the world’s largest clean energy technology venture capital and private equity fund.  Driven by a global coalition of 14 utilities who serve over 85 million households, EIP is leading the transformation of the electric and gas utility industries toward a cleaner, more efficient, customer-focused future.

EIP is seeking an Innovation & Commercialization Associate (ICA) to help our utility partners deploy new technologies and to support the growth of our portfolio companies.  The ICA will work with both the utility investors and the portfolio companies.  Applicants should have a keen interest in energy, sustainability, and innovation and can expect to get exposure to board-level utility strategy, entrepreneurial growth strategy, cleantech investing, complex enterprise sales, business development, and utility operations.  Curiosity, the ability to learn quickly, and excellent organization and follow-through are paramount to this role.  Experience in the energy industry is a plus.

The ICA will report to EIP’s Associate Vice President, Innovation & Commercialization. The position is based in New York.  There is ample opportunity for advancement for the right candidate who demonstrates strong performance.


Key Areas of Responsibility:

Tracking, reporting, and priority setting

  • Interface with our portfolio companies to keep our view of sales pipeline and activity up to date
  • Maintain innovation and commercialization dashboards for internal and external reporting
  • Generate weekly reports that enable the EIP team to prioritize its business development efforts
  • Contribute to setting EIP’s innovation and commercialization strategy


Maintaining our toolsets

  • Expand and make periodic updates to our library of materials on our portfolio companies
  • Build and maintain our database of information on our Nexus utilities
  • Develop our database of strategic partners and acquirers; suggest business development leads to pursue outside the EIP Nexus utilities


Facilitating commercial transactions

  • Provide research support for specific business development opportunities – e.g. reading and summarizing utility financial reports and regulatory filings
  • Develop financial and strategic business cases for our portfolio’s solutions in various utility environments
  • Participate in business development calls and meetings with utility personnel and strategic partners


Advancing the big picture initiatives

  • Develop presentations for senior utility executives supporting EIP’s efforts to help our partners build cultures of innovation and ease the barriers to new technology deployment
  • Conceive of and execute on new innovation and commercialization initiatives
  • Plan and execute events that give our portfolio broader industry exposure


The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Prior experience in energy or demonstrated ability to learn a complex industry quickly
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A proven track record of working effectively on a team and being a good teammate
  • Analytical and financial skills sufficient to develop complex business cases
  • A willingness to work on event management and related administrative matters
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with a CRM such as Salesforce preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in management consulting; business development; corporate strategy, finance, or operations; energy market analysis; or other relevant fields
  • A bachelor’s degree in business, economics, engineering, or another relevant field
