RVSP: YPE Alberta Leadership Event with Al Sanderson

On February 25, 2015, Young Professionals in Energy will be hosting the Alberta Leadership Event with Al Sanderson, Assistant Deputy Minister of the Policy Management Office and the Resource Development Policy Division in the Ministries of Environment and Sustainable Resource Development and Energy. 

 

Al will be sharing his leadership experience gain from throughout his career with a focus on:

 

1.     Leadership in a Dynamic Environment

2.     The Courage to act, Risk-taking, and Being Resilient

3.     Making Mistakes as a Leader

4.     How to Hire Staff for the Right Fit

5.     How to Network for your Own Career Development

 

To emphasize mentorship at every career stage, YPE and Al are inviting an additional speaker, Al’s mentee, to share his mentorship experience with Al with the larger YPE community.

 

In addition, there will be casual networking sessions before, during and after the keynote speech. 

 

Be a part of this exciting Alberta Leadership Event with Al Sanderson and other YPE members.  Develop a relationship with Al and many other YPE members from the public sector and energy companies.  This is simply an opportunity not to be missed!

Fee: $15 for 1 admisison/$30 for 3 admisisons

Al Sanderson's Bio: 

Al Sanderson is the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Policy Management Office and the Resource Development Policy Division.

 

Al worked in B.C.’s Public Service for 25 years, with 20 years in B.C. Lands in Smithers, Fort St. John and Prince George, and five years as Regional Director for B.C. Environment for the Omineca-Peace Region, centred in Prince George.

Al moved to Alberta in 2001, and was with Alberta Environment for 10 years involved in a variety of functions including regional land use planning, regional operations, process design and development, and as ADM of the Corporate Division.  In 2011, Al moved to Energy as Chief ADM, where he led the expansion of the International Energy Policy Branch, the creation of several Branches including the Market Access team, the Systemic Design team and the Canadian Energy Strategy team.  As of July 2014, Al Sanderson joined the Policy Management Office as Assistant Deputy Minister, shifting from his role as Chief Assistant Deputy Minister of the Department of Energy’s Strategy Division.  Beginning February 17, 2015, Al will also assume responsibility over the Resource Development Policy Division in the Department of Energy. 

 

Al is an active member of his Rotary club, and is involved in Rotary projects in Guatemala and Belize.  Al is married to Karen, a high school teacher, and has two grown children; his daughter is also a high school teacher, and his son is in the Pharmacy program at the University of Alberta.
