Why:                             Trinidad and Maria Viera are trying to maintain a healthy and safe environment for their son Isaias, age 7. They have owned their condominium home for 10 years, but in recent years, Trinidad suffered a back injury and is unable to perform maintenance repairs. Maria is sight-impaired as a result of a car accident and is unable to work, which means that the family operates on a very limited income of just over $17,000/year. They applied to Rebuilding Together because they were concerned about cold conditions in the winter, as their windows and doors were in bad condition and leaked the cold air in. They also have some significant water leakage, particularly in the kitchen, which has damaged the cabinets, appliances and areas of the wall. Because of the water and air leakages, as well as the need to replace the majority of appliances, Rebuilding Together felt this family would benefit from the combined efforts of the Energy Efficient Homes Initiative. With your help, not only will this family have a safer, healthy place to raise their son, but they will also reduce the energy costs and consumption which will allow more of the family’s income to go towards other needed things.

What to Expect:             Please label any tools you bring, such as hammers, drills, and tape measurers – these are helpful to have on site, but many look the same. This is a construction site – children under the age of 14 are not permitted for insurance purposes. Please plan to come early, get dirty, and have a great time giving back to a neighbor who really needs your help! Thank you for participating with Rebuilding Together and API!
