Distributed Generation 2.0

Sponsored by New York City

Thursday, Nov 13 2014 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM EST

Event Description

The electricity industry is on the cusp of a dramatic transformation, as the proliferation of distributed energy resources and customer energy management solutions necessitates complex and wide-reaching changes to power infrastructure, market design and business models.  Increasing customer adoption of distributed generation, microgrids, energy storage and demand response presents an unprecedented opportunity for utilities, technology providers, third-party energy providers and customers to create a sustainable, digital, interactive and efficient power network.  As residential consumers take increasingly active stances toward energy management and generation, fundamental assumptions of the electric utility model are being challenged.  This YPE event will feature experts in the next generation of distributed technology innovations: community solar, anaerobic digestion, CHP and microgirds. Speakers will give Ted Talk-style presentations about their area of focus, and attendees will be able to continue learning from the presenters after the event in an informal networking session.

He lectures on organics recycling and related topics and regularly speaks at industry forums and conferences.

Davetta Thacher - Project Manager at NYSERDA will speak about combined heat and power.  Davetta Thacher is a Project Manager within NYSERDA’s R&D Department, where she has helped develop, design, and manage funding for a wide variety of energy-related initiatives. Most recently, her focus has been the $60 million Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Acceleration Program, which awards incentives for the installation of 50 kW to 1.3 MW CHP systems, primarily in Con Edison territory.   Davetta spent the first part of her career working in manufacturing at General Electric, Teradyne and United Technologies.  She also has extensive experience in the entrepreneurial and academic communities.  Davetta holds BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA, and is the proud mother of four, the oldest of whom is a gainfully-employed young professional in Connecticut.
