Geoscience Technician

Job Information

The Geoscience Technician/Acquisition Analyst (the “Analyst”) will represent Drilling Info (“DI”) on various assignments, working “in-house”, supporting the business development teams (“BDT”) of energy companies that subscribe to DI’s technical database and are focused primarily on unconventional resource plays. The assignments will typically be between 3 and 6 months, mostly in Houston, with the opportunity to work outside of the US from time to time. Additional training will be provided by DI between assignments, either in DI’s Houston or Austin offices.

The Analyst will be responsible for providing BDT with data-driven analysis and support. The primary function will be to mine available databases to support preliminary screening of business opportunities and to provide the various technical analysis groups (“TAG”) supporting BDT with geoscience and engineering data to support more detailed analysis of selected opportunities. Although working “in-house”, the Analyst will also be interfacing with DI’s strategic consulting and ESP groups.
Duties: • Download exploration and production, along with GIS, cultural and related data, from DI
• Assist in the identification and capture of other relevant geoscience and engineering data
• Prepare and load data into geoscience and/or map based applications
• Perform decline curve analysis and economic modeling with guidance from TAG and BDT
• Generate maps, cross sections, schematics, tables and charts to support analysis and modeling
• Assist BDT in the preparation and presentation of decision-driving studies
• Other assignments as necessary to support BDT in their mission

Job Requirements

Degree from a 4 year college or university, preferably with a geology, engineering, computer science or math major

Experience and Knowledge:
At least 4 years of Oil and Gas industry experience; knowledge of geosciences and engineering data and geological workflow, including GIS and geologic type maps (isopachs, structure etc), digitizing, gridding, and map projections concepts; working familiarity with Drilling Info products (www.drillinginfo.com)
Computer Skills
Computer Skills:
Good working knowledge of applications such as Petrel and SMT/Kingdom, ArcMap (ArcView) or other GIS applications, PowerPoint, Excel and NeuraLog, as well as understanding of basic SQL and database programs
