As more conventional generation becomes replaced with renewable energy, utilities must look to alternative methods of maintaining the reliability of the overall electric grid. While demand response is not a new concept, the available resources at the customer site have changed. Yoh Kawanami (manager of Demand Response Programs at Hawaiian Electric Company) will cover the process and challenges of traditional demand response. He will also discuss how it is evolving into a tool for the utility and how the customer may benefit from such implementation.
