YPE Speaker Series: EV charging in Hawai’i – Pacific Current’s newest partnership

Come join the Young Professionals in Energy Honolulu Chapter for our monthly event.

We're meeting at Murphy’s Bar & Grill this month. We will discuss the joint venture started by Pacific Current and EverCharge have started to bring affordable EV charging to everyone in Hawai'i. Jordan Little will discuss how the project was started and how it will benefit people and companies across the state.

Hawai‘i is nearing a tipping point toward a clean transportation revolution, but major barriers to electric vehicle (EV) adoption challenge our trajectory to decarbonize ground transportation. 80 to 90 percent of EV charging takes place at home — the preferred location for convenience and practicality. However, nearly 50 percent of Hawai‘i’s population resides in a multi-unit dwelling, where installation of charging stations is often complicated and expensive. In 2019, Pacific Current and EverCharge embarked on a joint venture to bring a fully managed, scalable EV charging solution to apartments, condominiums, workplaces, and fleet customers. EverCharge brings SmartPower technology to EV charging through power optimization. The goal is to make charging easy and affordable.

Pacific Current is a subsidiary of Hawaiian Electric Industries (HEI). Their mission is to build local partnerships and invest in clean energy and sustainability projects as part of HEI’s strategy to be a catalyst for a better Hawai‘i.

EverCharge's mission is to enable the widespread adoption of EVs worldwide, through the most intelligent charging solution for fleets and multi-tenant facilities.
