Summary Description: The corporate regulatory paralegal is a member of the Senior Vice President, General Counsel of Legal Services’ staff. This position is responsible for directing and accomplishing the business administrative functions, providing high quality legal assistance within the Legal Services Division that will increase the effectiveness and further the overall objectives of the organization. In addition, the paralegal must be sufficiently flexible to assist other areas of the corporation.


Academic and Trade Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of corporate paralegal experience, preferably in the areas of electric utility / regulatory law and corporate/business law
  • Batchelor/Associate Degree or Certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal program
  • Must be a North Carolina Notary
  • Finance and Insurance experience is a plus
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated professionalism, detail-oriented and strong organizational skills
  • Proficient at multi-tasking, managing projects and meeting time-sensitive deadlines
  • Able to interface professionally with senior company executives and employees at all levels
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Competent with other technology tools and software including M-Files and BoardVantage


Work Experience/Skills:

  • Strong organizational and proofreading skills, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills (both oral and written), and above average drafting/writing skills.
  • Experience with electric cooperatives.
  • Resourcefulness in problem-solving.
  • Ability to establish priorities and work concurrently on a variety of projects.
  • Ability to adapt to new software and processes.
  • The ability to work well independently and as part of a group, often within tight time constraints.
  • Strong computer skills required, including excellent typing skills, and in-depth understanding of Microsoft Word.
  • Knowledge of North Carolina Utilities Commission and The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission



  • Under the supervision of an attorney, assist attorneys in the delivery of legal services
  • Prepare and edit documents, including but not limited to briefs, contracts, filings for local, state, and federal courts, etc.
  • Utilize computerized and other resources to research and retrieve case law, statutes, etc.
  • As assigned, file with local courts, North Carolina Utilities Commission, Secretary of State, and other courts, or agencies.
  • Maintain Corporate / Board policies, corporate bylaws, etc.
  • Prepare notices of committee / board meetings and post accordingly.
  • Prepare and maintain records and minutes for Committee / Board meetings.
  • Maintain calendar of legal and corporate deadlines
  • Prepare and maintain business development loans


Relationships and Contacts: Reports to Sr. VP, General Counsel

Working Conditions: Normal office conditions with occasional overtime and travel required.
