ENERGY MANAGER (Manager Operations)
The New York City School Construction Authority (SCA) is responsible for the design, construction and renovation of the City’s 1,400 public school buildings. We are one of the region's largest construction entities, building and modernizing school facilities for the largest school district in the nation. The Capital Plan Management Department at the NYC School Construction Authority is responsible for developing and implementing the Five-Year Capital Plan which outlines priorities for creating new school facilities as well as upgrading our existing buildings. We are seeking an ENERGY MANAGER who will be a part of the Sustainability Planning Unit who will work closely with internal and external stakeholders including other city agencies and will primarily be charged with helping to develop and oversee a portfolio-wide energy management and sustainability program to support decarbonization targets.
Other Responsibilities Include:
- Support development of plans to meet the City’s emissions and energy reduction goals in conjunction with the Architecture & Engineering and Construction Management Departments and the SCA’s Office of Design and Construction Innovation; identify energy conservation measures that can be implemented; provide technical inputs to energy and carbon neutrality planning efforts;
- Manage funding to ensure the SCA has access to appropriate project implementation mechanisms including processing and execution of Intra-City agreements and budget modifications;
- Support the development and implementation of energy efficiency and/or clean energy projects in collaboration with the SCA’s design, construction, innovation, sustainability and capital teams for project development and implementation; provide technical and administrative oversight when necessary;
- Manage energy and GHG emissions reduction tracking, performance management and reporting. Oversee and perform data collection for project status, estimated energy and GHG reductions, and carbon capital budgeting. Lead and/or support reporting of project progress and milestones to SCA leadership and/or other City stakeholders;
- Provide overall support for the SCA’s and City’s mission by participating in special projects and acting as a resource/subject matter expert as necessary.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree plus six (6) years of full time experience in project management, design, construction, operations, administration, architectural, or mechanical/plumbing estimation or a related field; four years must have been in a supervisory (supervision of subordinate employees) or management (manage a function, unit, or process) capacity; or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education/Skills: A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, architecture, applied science, environmental science, public policy or related field; familiarity with energy management, design and implementation of programs, or environmental research; understanding of building energy systems and energy efficiency technologies; knowledge of energy savings calculations and emissions calculation methodologies;
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) a plus.
