NYSEIA seeks a dynamic policy advocate to lead our trade association of 150+ solar energy businesses. If you have stakeholder engagement experience and organization management skills, along with a passion for NY solar, please apply or share with a colleague. We are at a key moment for the future growth of New York clean energy, and this is a great opportunity to make an impact in a mission-driven role. NYSEIA (New York Solar Energy Industries Association) is a membership and trade association dedicated to advancing the New York solar market. As the state’s longest-standing solar trade association, NYSEIA has successfully influenced the policies, programs, and regulations of the state over the past 25 years. NYSEIA seeks an executive director to lead the association and maintain New York as one of the most robust solar markets in the United States. The executive director will be responsible for overseeing the execution of policy strategy, as well as fundraising and member management to establish a strong resource base upon which NYSEIA can build its policy & legislative engagement and member services. NYSEIA currently focuses on the following issues in the New York solar market:

* Interconnection reform
* Zoning and permitting hurdles
* Property tax standardization and certainty
* The transition from Net Energy Metering to VDER
* Addressing NY-Sun program effectiveness
* Obstacles to community solar expansion
* Regional challenges in Long Island, NYC, and Upstate New York
* Rooftop and residential solar market improvements

POSITION SUMMARY

The executive director will be expected to undertake the following tasks directly or manage them in coordination with NYSEIA staff and contractors:

Policy Advocacy

* Serve as a policy generalist and public face of the organization in policy matters.
* Coordinate with other state industry groups, e.g. SEIA, CCSA, Vote Solar, ACE NY.
* Manage a Policy Committee consisting of representatives from member companies.
* Direct the work of contract lobbyists and consultants.
* Build consensus on NYSEIA policy positions; coordinate the drafting and filing of public comments, petitions, and letters.
* Engage with state officials to express NYSEIA feedback and concerns.

Administrative Duties

* Financial oversight and projections.
* Bookkeeping, lobbying, audit, tax, and other necessary filings, with the support of NYSEIA staff and accountants.

Marketing, Outreach, and Public Relations

* Plan and execute NYSEIA events (virtual and in-person).
* Give public presentations at industry conferences and events.
* Field press inquiries, draft press releases, and pursue media coverage.
* Content creation for the website and marketing materials.
* Coordinate management of NYSEIA website and social media.

Board Relations

* Develop an annual strategy and plan for NYSEIA with regard to budget, policy priorities and objectives, legislative and regulatory campaigns, staff resource allocation, events, and organizational improvements.
* Assist the board with meeting planning and other organizational management, including monthly calls and an annual strategic planning session.
* Coordination of board and committee meetings, including preparation of agenda, minutes and financial reports for board meetings, along with regular updates on key developments or issues.
* Manage annual board election process and assist with board succession planning.

Fundraising & Membership

* Coordinate and facilitate regular member calls & policy updates by email.
* Oversee member communications on policy matters, events, and organizational issues.
* Plan and execute a member retention and recruitment strategy to grow the organization.
* Identify and attract additional revenue streams including grants, fundraising events, etc.

REQUIREMENTS

* The ideal candidate will reside in or relocate to New York, preferably New York City or Albany. NYSEIA does not offer relocation funding.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must.
* Proven experience facilitating meetings with multiple stakeholders.
* Experience advancing policy and legislative objectives.
* Experience in public policy, politics, renewable energy, trade associations, and nonprofit management are preferred. Quantitative skills, solar business development experience, or electrical engineering knowledge are also valuable.
* Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.

SPECIFICATIONS

This is a full-time position with working hours managed independently to meet the organization’s goals. Applicants are expected to work remotely from their own office; NYSEIA will not be providing an office. Compensation will be competitive and based on the experience and skill set of the applicant. Occasional in-person meetings in New York City and Albany will be required along with some travel to industry events statewide.
