Firm Overview:

Pelican Energy Partners is a Houston based private equity firm specializing in the energy service and equipment sector. The firm makes investments in small to middle-market companies with high growth potential. Pelican looks for companies with enterprise values between $10 and $100 million where the experience and networks of the firm’s principals can be leveraged to create significant long-term value. Many of Pelican’s principals have previously worked as CEOs or senior executives of energy service companies. Additionally, within the ranks of Pelican’s investors, there are over 25 current and former C-level professionals of energy service companies, both private and publicly traded, spanning the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors.

Pelican has a successful track record of more than 20 platform investments and has raised nearly $600 million of committed capital. The firm is investing from its third fund, a $230 million vehicle with significant dry powder available for future investments.

Professional Responsibilities:

Pelican is looking for a pre-MBA associate to join the firm in the Summer of 2022. Associates are integral members of the investment team and play an active role in pre-investment due diligence, deal structuring, financing, portfolio company management, and exit decisions. The associate role at Pelican provides a unique opportunity to gain broad exposure to private
equity and allows an individual to enhance his or her skills as an investor and develop a foundation in general management. Pelican is a lean organization where broad responsibilities are given to associates.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Reviewing and evaluating prospective investment opportunities
  • Managing the diligence and deal closing process, including:
    Company specific due diligence
    Industry analysis
    Third party diligence providers, including accountants, attorneys, and other consultants
    Purchase agreement schedules and related documents
  • Structuring financing
  • Monitoring portfolio companies and leading the execution of special projects and strategic initiatives, including strategies for new products, new customers, and new markets
  • Supporting the exit process
  • Participating in sourcing of new investment opportunities

Associates are expected to think critically about the investment thesis, work comfortably with senior level executives on special projects, and work with limited guidance and oversight.

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a top institution and strong academic record
  • Two years or more of investment banking, private equity, management consulting, or accounting work experience by the time of the start date
  • Excellent business and investment judgment
  • Demonstrated track record of success in prior positions
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Strong modeling, research, and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Highly motivated and entrepreneurial; possessing a high degree of personal initiative
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment

Commitment:  Three-year commitment
