Making a Clean Energy Future an Equitable Future (Virtual)

Join YPE Boston for a one-hour discussion on the health, economic, and social impacts of energy systems and infrastructure in the U.S.

Americans in low-income households, communities of color, small towns, and many rural areas often do not have equal or affordable access to reliable energy. What’s more, the environmental cost of producing and delivering energy — the pollution of our air, water, and ground — tend to be concentrated in some of those same places. The coronavirus pandemic has further revealed the extent to which these inequities affect vulnerable households.

Given the economic downturn we are facing today and will likely continue to face in the years to come due to the COVID-19 pandemic, addressing these issues is more important than ever. This discussion will highlight new policies that can address energy inequity, including shutoff protections and arrearage management programs, regulatory reform, and programs promoting clean energy technologies like energy efficiency and customer-sited renewable energy.
