Vote Solar is a non-profit organization whose mission is to make solar more accessible and affordable across the United States. Our high-impact team is in search of an Access & Equity Program Manager to help us expand our outreach and collaboration with underserved communities. The position will build out our Access & Equity education program, including the coordination of curriculum development and facilitation of trainings.


The Access & Equity Program Manager will report to the Program Director, Access & Equity, working in collaboration with the Communications, Development, Campaign, and Regulatory teams. The Access & Equity Program Manager will be responsible for assisting with research efforts, effectively packaging and translating solar policy information to a variety of partners, and empowering our community and equity partners to advocate on energy policy matters that impact them. This position includes potential for professional growth and development. Areas of focus include:

A. Partnerships:

  • Coordinate and conduct outreach to, and build relationships with, organizations and communities in the social, environmental, and economic justice arenas who share our mission and vision of a more equitable clean energy future;
  • Maintain our database of information and notes on the various organizations we partner with;
  • Serve as a conduit for information flows between Vote Solar, our clean energy partners, and community-based organizations in underserved communities;
  • Develop a process to continually assess Vote Solar’s success in building relationships with and building the capacity of social, environmental, and economic justice organizations

B. Trainings:

  • Help create Vote Solar’s “Solar Access & Equity Trainings” program for partner organizations. Research & develop workshop curriculum and accompanying materials that concisely convey information about the energy system, the transition to a clean energy economy, and how workshop participants can be advocates for the transition they want;
  • Plan and execute a series of “Solar Access & Equity Trainings” for partner organizations in underserved communities, including coordination of location, transportation as needed, catering, audience participant registration, presenters, marketing, etc;
  • Eventually, with growth in technical expertise, conduct these workshops;
  • Program learning: provide best in class customer service for those responding to outreach with questions, updates or comments, and update program offerings as we learn.

C. Misc. Program Support:

  • Work with the communications team to create compelling content for the program area such as one-pagers, fact sheets, blog posts, etc.;
  • Policy tracking of access and equity legislation and regulation, as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Access & Equity.



  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in advocacy, program administration, communications and/or partnership development;
  • Great communications skills;
  • Ability/interest in frequent travel (likely one trip per month);
  • Experience with and/or interest in solar policy is preferred, but not essential;
  • Ability to learn and communicate complex energy policy ideas to non-energy expert audiences;
  • Experience developing and editing high-quality written materials, including fact sheets, talking points, statements, etc.
  • A passion for advocating for the creation of equitable energy policies and programs that will benefit underserved communities;
  • Strong ability to work independently;
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to plan, organize and prioritize workload and handle several tasks simultaneously;
  • Ability to manage work effectively across multiple teams in multiple locations;
  • Excellent people skills and experience training others;
  • A detail-oriented and organized work style;
  • A good sense of humor

This position will be based at an existing Vote Solar office, with a preference for Baltimore, Maryland or nearby. Salary is commensurate with experience. $60,000 -$70,000 based on experience.
