Are you dedicated to addressing the risks of climate change? We are seeking a Consultant or Senior Consultant who is passionate about helping our clients achieve goals related to energy efficiency, demand flexibility, and broader decarbonization strategies. In this position you will develop primary Codes and Standards (C&S) research designs and strategies, oversee implementation, and analyze results of research projects intended to meet state, federal, and international carbon mitigation goals. You will work with C&S program staff to acquire and analyze code-relevant data from a variety of primary and secondary sources. You will oversee technical consultant teams conducting field research in buildings throughout California. You will support long-term tactical planning efforts to support California achieving its energy and climate goals. You may assist with project coordination and technical and analytical support for state and federal appliance standards and test procedures advocacy. Responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a trusted advisor by providing pragmatic advice based on defensible data and analysis
  • Design, development, and oversight of primary and secondary research related to energy-using equipment and building systems
  • Project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, controlling, and closing
  • Client engagement, subcontractor management, and external stakeholder engagement
  • Review and analysis of field data related to energy-using equipment and building systems
  • Participation in energy policy and regulation development, especially building codes and appliance standards
  • Development of compelling reports and presentations, business development collateral, and proposals

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to learn and apply new skills across interdisciplinary fields, including technology assessments, engineering, economics, statistics, and policy
  • Bachelor’s degree required; engineering or technical degree(s) is a plus
  • Minimum of 4-8 years relevant experience
  • Experience with building energy codes and appliance standards, especially Title 24
  • Project management track record
  • Outstanding analytical and conceptual skills, including strong Excel skills
  • Whole building design and performance and compliance modeling experience is a plus
  • Ability to collaborate well with people at all levels within and outside of an organization
  • Great initiative, creativity, and curiosity; work well both on your own and as part of team
  • Strong practical implementation skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Confidence, enthusiasm, humility, and highest ethical standards
  • Willingness for occasional travel
  • Desire and ability to work remotely; being located in the San Francisco Bay/Sacramento area (ideally) or California is a plus, but not required.
